After running amok in a house at Rozelle, Sydney, last week, and attackhis wife with a hammer, Arthur Moore, aged 42, employed at Callan Park Asylum as a warder, cut his throat with a razor, and died a minute or two later.
Mrs. Moore was badly injured, but during the night her condition had improved. Stanley Heckenberg, who went to her help, is in a critical state.
The third victim of the attack, Mrs. Hawkless, was not seriously hurt. Relations between the husband and wife bad been strained lately. Moore was worried over financial matters, and was said to have been of a jealous nature.
It was in Mrs. Hawkless' house that Moore attacked his wife with a hammer. Mrs. Hawkless, in trying to protect her sister, received Beveral blows on the head.
Heckenberg, who is not of strong build, rushed into the bedroom, but Moore quickly got him on the floor and struck him several times on the head with the hammer. Moore then cut his own throat.
Mrs. Moore and Heckenberg were taken by the Civil Ambulance to Balmain Hospital. Heckenberg was found to have a fractured skull, and was operated on after his depositions had been taken by the police.
