WINS FOR PONSONBY AND I DEYONPORT. i i A crowd estimated to be betweer 7000 and 8000 patronised Carlaw Part on .Saturday and became interested ii one of the most exciting games playec this season. The teams were City anc Marist Brothers, and from start tc finish there was not a dull moment, the crowd being kept at a high pitch »of ex citement throughout. The ground at th< beginning was sodden, but dried con siderably as the afternoon wore on, anc though the handling of the ball was noi brilliant, the Marist forwards used theii weight and showed surprising dash City were handicapped through theii inability to hook the ball, and had the diarists' backs played closer up instead of standing well off they would pr,ob ably have won instead of being beater by one point, 6 to 5. On No. 2 ground Ponsonby met anc defeated Athletic comfortably 25 to 5 while at Victoria Park Devonport were too good for Newton in the second half and won 11 to 3.
