DEATH OF A RECLUSE.
INQUEST TO BE HELD. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) - WHENUAPAI, this day. John Gray, aged about 70, a bachelor recluse, who has been living here for the last three years, was taken with pains in his chest and abdomen on Wednesday night. Two neighbours, Messrs. Brinson and Thornc George, gave him attention, and Mr. Thome George removed him to his home on Thursday. A doctor arrived on Friday, but Gray had expired on Thursday night. Constable Smith took the body to Auckland yesterday for an inquest. Nothing is known locally excepting that Gray had connections about Whakatane, and was- supposed to be a land owner. He was a man of independent means. Latterly he returned after six weeks' absence. He mfede no intimate friends here. He had -suffered from. heart trouble, and.probably this was the' cause of his death.
