! The. City Council met. last evening, the only absent member being Mr. Entrican, from whom an apology, was received. . Daffodil Day.—Permission was granted the: Victoria League to hold a street sale of flowers on "Daffodil Day," probably August 2S. - •■ - Organ Recitals.—The City Organist reported that during the last financial year 35 Saturday evening recitals were given. The average attendance was 855, compared with 820 for the previous year, and 233 for the first year of the recitals (1913-14). Two free recitals for school children were given and these were largely attended, considerably over 3000 being present at the second recital. Orokei Fishing.—The District Telegraph Engineer wrote asking the council to prohibit, fishing off the Orakei Bridge, and pointed ont that often the Department's circuits passing over the inlet were fouled through people fishing. The city engineer reported he thought the request reasonable. It was .decided that fishing be prohibited from the bridge. Compensation.—Although declining any liability for an accident alleged to have occurred to one of Its employees at the fish market, the council granted a payment of £50 to the employee's wife. Detour Roads.—ln reply to a letter from the New Lynn Town Board asking If the City Council would assist in the maintenance of "detour" roads into which traffic was being diverted during the construction work of the Main Highways deviation, the council- decided it was not prepared to accept any further financial responsibility than that already undertaken.,
