ONEHUNGA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Onehunga Ladies' Benevolent Society was held last night in the Presbyterian Ilall, the Mayor, Mr. J. E. Cowell, presiding. The report presented by Mrs. A. M. Parker, hon sec, told of 'the good workdone by the ladies to the aged, the sick, and the neglected children. Special mention was made of the quantity of clothing, etc., which had been given to the committee by residents for distribution. The committee appreciated the kindness of the donors, and the recipients were grateful for their gifts.

The treasurer. Miss Robb. reported the receipts to have been: From Charitable Aid Board, £93: concert, collecting boxes nnd sports committee, £48 192; annual subs, £23 7/6; interest fS 16/1: credit balance 31/3/24. £42 7/3: total. £216 10/. Expended on relief. £90 4/0. balance in bank, £123 8/; cash In hand, £2 IS/.

The last two items and two shares in the Onehunga Building Society, worth £69, comprise the assets of the society, together with the sum of £13 17/2 "to Its credit with the Chnrit.ible Aid Board. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

.The election of officers resulted as follows: President. Mrs. M. I.ocan: vice-presidents, Mesdames J. E. Cowell (Mavoressl and D. D. Scott: secretary. Mrs. A. M. Tarker treasurer. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Mr. W. ,T. Jordan. M.P., ri vote of condolence was passed with Miss Mnhonev on the death of her brother. Monsignor Mahoney. Both Ecntlemon spoke of the high esteem In which Monsignor Mahoney was held in Onehunga. where he had been parish priest for the last 20 years. The meeting passed a vote of sympathy with Mrs. I. The treasurer. Miss Rohh. reported that the usual subsidy paid hy the Government, through the Charitable Aid Roard. had not been paid this year, and that she hnd been informed by the secretary of the Hospital Board that it was likely to be discontinued altogether.

Mr. Jordan said he felt sure the time was near when the snlend'd work now being done by the Ladles' Benevolent Societies in New Zealand would not be left to them, but that Parliament would make adequate nrovision for all the poor and needy in the Dominion. The Mayor referred to the good work done by Mrs. Parker (secretary! and Miss Rohh (treasurer), and. on bis motion, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to them.

Mr. Jordan also made mention of the keen interest taken in tic welfare of the sick folk by Mr. .Tohn Rowe. who represents Onehunea on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Bonrd. and it was decided to record the society's appreciation of his services on the minutes, and that a letter to that effect be sent to Mr. Rowe, who was unable to attend the meeting.
