TE AWAMTJTU-PIRONGIA BOARD. CLAIMS REPUDIATED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Te AwnmutuPirongia Railway Board, held at Pirongia, tho chairman, Mr. C. M. Alexander, stated that it should he clearly understood by ratepayers that the board had no power to alter the boundaries of its district, nor authority to dispute any valuation mado by the Valuer-General. No one regretted more than the members of the-board the necessity of having to levy a rate, but it had to be realised that tho sooner rates were paid the quicker the board would be wound up. Regarding claims against the late Pironga Light Railway League, which the board might be compelled to pay, the board was in a difficult position when accepting or repudiating liability. Every payment had to be passed by the Auditor-General's Department. Regarding a claim by Mr. A. E. Lear for £25 5/ on account of disbursements made and expenses incurred on behalf of the late league, unsupported as it was by dates of payments and receipted ■vouchers, the board decided not to accept responsibility for tho amount. Another c)aim for £55 on behalf of several members of tho late league was also dealt with. It was decided not to consider tho collective claim, and the clerk was instructed to endeavour to find out the exact amounts paid by individual members.
