WOMEN'S TEMPERANCE UNION.

WORK IX INDIA. The meeting of the Auckland Women's christian Temperance Union was held in the Central Mission Ilnll jesterday afternoon. Mrs. Cook presided. Mrs. McMillan gave a very interesting account of the work of the W.C.T.U. Nt the Mountain Station, of Haini Tal, in India, where the European mothers and children spend their time during the very warm season. She spoke of the great care needed In training: children, as they were surrounded by so many evil influences in heathen lands. One department of the work was for mothers to meet ln council Tor mutual help in t/• training of their children. The llritish fjldlers in the hospitals were also visited and helped. encouraged, and safe-guarded, as their temptations were so great. Welfare exhibitions were also held to teach th« Indian women how to care for their children. Posters and diagrams were prepared, dealing with food protection, ventilation in the hollies, drainage, and the care of sick children. Mrs. McMillan spoke of the curse Honor was to India, and urged upon those present to light for freedom from this curse in New Zealand.

Mrs. Fulljames gave a short account ot the work among the Maoris at Hokinngn. an said she Imped to send a parcel of clothing tor them to Sister Eleanor shortly. Members were asked to assist. A collection was taken for the Maori work. Mrs. Cook reported that a farewell party had been given reccntdly at the W.CT.TJ. Hostel to two of the young Indies who were leaving for foreign mission work. A pleasant evening was spent. It was decided to hold the Tuy Cp Social on June 30.
