Despite counter attractions there was a good attendance at Carlaw Park on Saturday afternoon, where the chief attraction was the game between City and Devonport. It was a great game, played fast and hard from beginning to end. At one stage Devonport led by 7 pointß, but in the second half City rattled on the scores and won by 27 to 20. Devonport were unlucky to be beaten by such a margin, but the best team on the day won. Playing against Ponsonby, Newton put up a particularly poor display. Exhibiting no combination at all, they allowed Ponsonby to romp all over them, the score at half-time being 37 to nil. On resuming Ponsonby scored again and converting, Newton gaining a try which went unconverted. Newton then threw in the towel, Ponsonby winning by 42 points to 3.
