A.R.C. WINTER MEETING.

THE SECOND DAY

ARCH AMIE WINS KING GEORGE HANDICAP. The Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting was continued on Saturday in ;dull but dry weather. There was a j larrre attendance. The course was a bit heavy. An Outsider Scores. : Twenty-three faced the starter in the King (icorge Handicap. Yoma was the chief fancy, but was only about £75 better supported than Doleful Ditty, the bracket Broadwood and Gala Day being next in order of selection. The colours of Strategy were first to become prominent, with Joy Ride and White Comet next. Bright Sol had run to tbe front before tbe cutting was reached, with White Comet, Joy Bide. Income, Arch Ainie. York Abbey and Yoma next. Bright Sol led across tlie top from Arci. Amie, Income, York Abbey, White Comet, Yoma and Uralla. When in a line for home York Abbey and Arch Amie singled themselves out, and in a good finish Arch Amie got the decision by three-quarters of a length from York Abbey, with Gold Jacket two and a-half length's away third. Barometer was fourth, with" Archibald, Doleful Ditty, Income. Bright Sol and Uralla among the next to finish. The winner paid double figures. A Chapter of Accidents. Lucullent was a warm proposition for the Panmure Hurdle Race, being entrusted with about £900 more than Irish Jig, Good Mark being most supported of the others. Passionate was first out, but fell at the first fence and Irish Jig took charge leading past the stands from Kamehameha, King Amans, Lucullent, Good Mark, All Talk, Bright Light and Pinna. Along the back Irish Jig was attended by Te Tahi and Lucullent, but the first-named fell and Te Tahi and Good Mark also came down, leaving Lucullent well clear of King Amans, All Talk and Kamehameha, Pinna having pulled up, while Bright Light came to grief at the next hurdle. Lucullent went on to win by four lengths from King Amans. which "beat All Talk by ten lengths. Kamehameha refused at the last fence and the three horses placed were the only ones to finish. The Concluding Event. Clockwork and Homai were the only withdrawals from the Carbine Plate, a gentleman rider's event, with which the programme concluded. When the tote closed Serene and Cureaform were easily tlie best backed horses that had so far competed at the meeting, both carrying over £5000 each, Serene being slightly the better favourite of the pair. Chaplin was next best supported. Kawa was in charge when the held settled down, with Serene, Arsene Lupin, Cureaform and Chaplin racing as named. There was little change along the back and across the top, except that Serene had joined Kawa and Cureaform had improved his position. Serene led into the straight from Cureaform, Chaplin and Arsene Lupin, and went on to win comfortably by two lengths from Cureaform, who beat Chaplin by three lengths. Arsene Lupin, Rippling and Opaloid were next. An Inquiry. An inquiry was held concerning interference with Comical by 'Frisco Mail in the Remuera Hurdle" Race, and W. Bowden, the rider of 'Frisco Mail, was cautioned. Apparently the interference took place between the five and fourfurlong posts. The Totalisator. | The totalisator investments for the day reached £58,944. an increase of £22,217 10/ over tbe £(36,726 10/ handled on the corresponding day last year, making a total of £167,559 10/ for the two days, an increase of £13,280 10/ over the j £154.009 for the first two days of the previous winter meeting.
