WOMAN FOUND DROWNED.
MAY HAVE FAINTED. (Ny Tele__rapb.—Prena Association-) GISBORNE, Saturday. An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of Catherine Adelaide Dunlop, about 00 years of age,, and wife of Mr. J. T. Diinlop, of Te Kaha. Evidence was given that the deceased, who was visiting friends, appeared in the best of spirits on the night preceding her death. Dr. Gunn, who made a post-mortem examination, said that deceased had an enlargement of the heart and that in his opinion her death was due to drowning. The lungs, however, were not nearly so waterlogged as in an ordinary case of drowning, and from this he drew tlie inference that deceased might have fainted before falling into the water, or the shock of falling into cold water in tho affected condition of her heart hud caused her to faint. Other evidence was to the effect tbat the body was found in a pond created by a dam across a creek. The dam bad only been recently formed, and when deceased was staying with ber friends previously there was no water at the spot. At the inquest tlie coroner found that death wns due to accidental drowning and that there was no evidence to show how and when deceased got into the water.
