TENNIS AT NIGHT.
NOVELTY IN AUCKLAND. NEW WINTER CLUB FORMED. Tennis by electric light during the winter evenings—already a popular pastime In Australia —Is shortly to make Its appearance In New Zealand, the distinction of being the first club to introduce it into the Dominion having fallen upon the CUvc Itoad Tennis Club, the members of which are incorporated under the name of Tennis Limited. The courts are situated on the site of Wtnstone's old scoria quarry off Mountain Ftoad. Epsom, and have been formed on n scoria bed. They nre chip courts, nrt particularly well-drafned. and form very suitable winter courts, such as are very much needed in Auckland. The intention is to light the courts bj electricity so that tennis may be enjoyec not only during the winter days, but a'lsr in the evenlngH. A commodious pavilion i> being bulit. and a dancing floor laid down so that dancing und ping-pong mny b< enjoyed as Indoor recreations. On Saturday the courts were opened, there being a Rood attendance of member; nnd visiting tennis players from other clubs A winter club has been started, and t progressive tournament lms hem fixed foi the Kings Birthday, the competition beln; Open to all local players.
