ROYAL SHOW FOR AUCKLAND.

The recommendation of thn Royal a Agricultural Society to its council that t [the Royal Show in 1920 should be held d in Auckland, is something of which the people of Auckland city and province ' ) should take. note. These Royal Shows. Jj tho first of which was held last year. v are intended to be the best displays of t the kind in the Dominion. The idea isto havo a show that will grado ( "champions of champions." It is a super- j show, tho prize-winners at which will be a entitled to bo called Dominion chain- ' pions. The aim is to improve the \ standard of stock by bringing together j, tho best in the country and showing ] farmers what can be achieved. Probably but few people in the. Auckland provin-e * realise how far below some other parts ' Auckland is in tho breeding and showing ( of stock. In this respect the Agricultural \ Show in Auckland ranks far below other i Dominion shows. Indeed the quality of t stock shown at Auckland is discreditable I to the province. That a majority of 1 members of the Hoval Agricultural ' Society in meeting at Wellington should 1 : have voted for next year's Royal Slio.v I to be belli here is gratifying 'from the 1 Auckland and Dominion points of view. To have a Koral Show here should do], Auckland farming much good. I"t would l ( be an education to farmers to see the I kind of stock that is bred in other parts. 1 , ! The decision also shows that there is a ( national spirit in the society. The claims L ! of Auckland in particular and the policy jj of "moving the Show round" were pup- , ( ported by members outside the Auckland I province! The position of Auckland is j, a drawback, in that it involves longer!, transport for southern stock and theij accommodation here is inferior to that i; in other places. This inferiority, how- ' j ever, can be dealt with. If Auckland is , to have this Show it must make j adequate preparations for it. i t
