• (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very successful pntortainTD<*nt was ! given in the Grand Theatrp on : Wednesday evening, when the Whakatano Surf-bathing and Life-saving Club put on an old-fashioned nigger ■ minstrel show for the first half, and a; locally-written playlet, "The Man From j Poverty Bay," for thp second half. Messrs. I Ivor T.ynch and .T. Warner wore corner ; nipu, Mr. H. Moffat intPrlocutor, oth«rs in i ring being Messrs. Eric Kamson, 1\ Boyco, ! T. B. DalP, H. Tennant, and Misses H. Holmes and Mavis King. The orchestra, which added considerably to the success of the evening, consisted of Messrs. W. .Tarrett (lendpr). Dr. Applnhy, Messrs. E. Clark, A. J. Canning, J. Stewart. I C. Armstrong, A. W'augh, J. Allen and.!
Miss Waugh. Messrs. MofTat. F. Bo.vcp. H. Tennunt. .T. Warnpr, I. Lynch. E. Ramson, T. Dale. K. Herbert, and Mesdarnes Fearon and F» Holmes, and Miss King, took part in the playlet, which was composed by Mr. .T. Tennant. and was acted very creditably. Over 330 seats were reserved for the occasion (said to be a record booking for Whakatane), and the theatre was packed to the doors. The surfers' funds benefit to the extent of a:bout £50.
