A LAST TRIBUTE.

BY AUCKLAND CITIZENS. AT THE TOWN HALL. IMPRESSIVE MEMORIAL SERVICE. The memorial service as a combined tribute to the late Prime Minister, held in the Town Hall this afternoon, concurrently with the funeral of the dead statesman in Wellington, was a most impressive one. The large hall was well filled some time prior to the commencement of the proceedings, the gathering being representative of all classes of the community, and all shades of political thought. -Most, of those present were in mourning, and there were numerous manifestations of universal sorrow. The solemnity of the occasion was evidently felt by the huge congregation, there being a tense atmosphere reminiscent of that experienced on such memorable occasions as the Anzac Day ceremonies. One could sec plainly on the faces of nil. which acted as mirrors of the heart, the deep sympathy and sorrow that prevailed.

The service opened with the singing of -The Old Hundreth." this being followed by the hymn, "0 God Our Help In Ages Past." The Rev. Ci. Gordon Bell then read opening .sentences from Holy Scripture, the Rev. U. 11. Laws offering up a prayer which was appropriate to the occasion. All present then joined their voices in the hymn "Now The Labourer's Task Is Over." A lesson taken from I. Corinthians was then read by Brigadier Toorner, of the Salvation Army.
