ARMED RUFFIANS.
——• REVOLVERS FOR CITIZENS. POLICE COMMISSIONER'S VIEW DECENT PEOPLE HANDICAPPED (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 2 p.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Referring to the prevalence of robberies and assaults by armed desperadoes, the Commissioner of Police says that every citizen of repute who has just reasons should be permitted to carry a revolver. Decent citizens should be in a position to meet men who prey upon society on an equal footing. Every man who has to carry home his week's wages should be armed. He thought the law under which permits to carry firearms were issued was too rigorously administered when decent citizens were applicants. — (A. and N.Z)
