THEFT AS A SERVANT.
EASTBOURNE FERRY CASE, VERDICT OF GUILTY. (By Telegraph.—Press WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The trial of George Nelson Shore in connection with the Eastbourue ferry case concluded to-day. Shore was charged' with the theft of £300 as a servant from the East-, bourne Borough Council, and also with having conspired to defraud the council. At the first trial the jury, after a retirement of five hours, were unable to agree, and were discharged. After an absence of an hour and 20 minutes to-day the jury brought in a verdict of guilty on the count" of stealing, but was unable to specify the definite amount. On the second count of conspiracy with Doran to defraud the Eastbourne Council the jury found the prisoner guilty, but added that there was a great laxity in the methods of supervising the check tickets during the time the frauds were committed. George Nelson Shore, who was found guilty of a charge of the theft of money, the property of the Eastbourne Borough, was sentenced to reformative detention for a period not exceeding two years.
