Tho doctors ordered Dame Nellie Melba not to sing at the concert held as a benefit for Madame Alhani, for which Dame Nellie is arranging tbe programme.

Miss Clissold, who has been the guest of Mrs. Bellringham, Te Rapa, has returned to Timaru. Mrs. G. Fowlds, junior, of Auckland, is staying at Ilar•liour View, Raglan. Miss M. Johnstone, of the staff of the Hamilton High .School, lias left for Australia, on a three months' trip. Miss Clemow, of Auckland, is spending a holiday over at Raglan. A pretty evening wedding was celebrated on April 22 in St. Peters Church, Hamilton, by the Yen. Archdeacon Cowie. The bride was Miss Marion Garland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. Garland, of Matamata, the bridegroom (being Mr. William P. Martini, of the Glaxo staff, Matangi. Mr. S. B. Sims presided at the organ, and the service was choral. Mr. Garland gave his daughter away, and her frock ivas brocaded satin, with long train, and tulle veil. She was attended by Miss Sylvia Dnnford, who wore blue taffeta silk with lace insertions. Miss Dulcie Dunford wore apricot crepe de chine. The flower girls, Joyce Trubshaw and Evelyn Robinson, had on pink frocks. Mr. Maddocks (Auckland) was best man. and Mr. Harper (Matangi) groomsman. A reception was held in the Matangi Hall, the guests being received by the parents of the bride. Mrs. Garland's frock was black silk, with black and white toque. The young couple left by the southern express on their honeymoon trip, tho bride travelling in a blue marocain frock. At Maungatautari, near Cambridge, on Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Adams entertained a number of her friends at afternoon tea. The competition was won by Mrs. Middletoa. Those present were:—Mrs. F. ROTORUA NOTES. Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Wallis, who have been visiting Rotorua, have returned to Raglan. Mrs. S. Wallis, of King George V. Hospital, with her son and daughter, and her mother, Mrs. Williams, have left for Nelson, via Napier, where they will spend the winter months. Miss M. Strew, who has been on a holiday to Auckland and Timaru, has returned to Rotorua. Miss Dora Grove, has left for New Plymouth, where she will resume her duties on the nursing .staff at the New Plymouth hospital. Mrs. Newlands Young and Miss Young, who have been spending the summer months at Grande Vue, have returned to Auckland. Mrs. Wellswood, who has been visiting Rotorua, has left for Matamata and Hamilton, later returning to her home in Hawke's Bay. Miss Miriel Robertson, Westvale, Rotorua, is spending a holiday in Auckland. Mis 3 M. MeTier, who has been staying with her sister, Miss D. MeTier, returns to Takapuna at the end of the week. Mrs. W. G. K. Kenrick, Pukuatua Street, has returned to Rotorua from Auckland. Mrs. Cook, Takapuna, is visiting Rotorua. Miss Winifred Wall, who has been on a visit to Devonport, has returned to Rotorua. Canon Younjr and Mrs. Young, of Auckland, who have been staying at Park View, Rotorua, have left for Tauranga. Mr. and Mrs. H. ir. Loekhart, of London, who have been mio=ts at Park View, Rotorua, for the past two months, have left for Napier, and will also tour the South Islund. They sail for Kngland in June. Mr. and' Mrs H. B. Douslin, who have been staying at Taupo and Rotorua, haye left for Auckland. They return to America in May. Mrs. Edwin Robertson, Westvale, has returned to Rotorua from Wanganui. in Auckland. Mrs. Bowe, Timaru, who has been on a month's holiday to Rotorua, has left for Timaru, where she will join her husband, Dr. F. Bowe, and daughter, Miss Alice Bowe; they intend leaving for England and the Continent : the second week in May. 1 A successful social and dance was held under the auspices of the Ranger Soccer Football Club at the Peerless i Hall, Rotorua, on Tuesday night. The ' secretary, Mr. H. L. Musgrave and his , energetic committee worked hard to I make the evening such an enjoyable one. There was a large attendance, and the hall was prettily decorated with greenery and the club's colours —red :and white. | A concert was given by the Rotorua Choral Society to the patients of wards one and three at King (ieorge Y.
