CROQUET.
CARLTON CROQUET CLUB. The president of the Carlton Croquet Club. .Mrs. \V. Perry, gave a most successful "At Home on the club s lawns :I r. Newmarket on Thursday, when there was a large attendance of ladies, including Mrs. Garrard au.l Mrs. -Keesing, president and secretary respectively of the Auckland •Croquet Association. Both progressive an" brake croquet were indulged in with allien attendant fun and enjoyment. The Hrst competition—A grade—was won by Mrs. Ihiy, and tile second prize b.v .Mrs. liutler. Mrs. IT. Cucksey won the lirst Ii prize and IMrs. Bird thi' second. The winners of I lie brake croquet were Miss Kent ley and Mrs. Oswald. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the club's president. assisie.l by the committee. The tables were prettily decorated with a fine shower of pink eosmea ana yellow chrysanthemums.
