He had a genial personality,' and ' made many friends when lie came to Auckland in 1019 from the South, ,In both cricket and football "Don," as-Jw was generally known, won., many honours. He was educated at Southland College, and represented that province in the two sports. In 1008 he won New Zealand football honours, playing wing forward against Bedell-Sivriglir's English team. In his younger days bo was a dashing batsman and a useful fast bowler. He had passed his prime when , he came to Auckland, hut was a useful member of the Ponsonby senior eleven | from 1020 to 1924. ' He wns also an 1 oarsman above tho average, being - [ member of the Awartia senior four when that crew won tho New Zealand championship. An inquest was held this niorning.by the city coroner, and a verdict w» 3 returned tof "Death from an overdose of morphia taken to induce sleep."
