■ ST. JOHN COMPETITION. AUCKLAND WINS GAZE CUP. A small but interested gathering, which included the Governor-General j and Lady Fergusson, Commissioner C. J- j Tunks. Commissioner Bryan, of Welling- | ton, and District Superintendent J. F. j Hutchinson, watched the St. John Am- j bulance competition for the Gaze Cup at the Domain this morning. Seven teams competed—four from Auckland, '■ two from Wanganui, and one from Mas-. terton. The competition was the ban- j daging and conveyance of a "femur fracture patient over a distance of 100 yards, the stretcher-bearers having to cross a hurdle midway. The judges wore I3r. C. E. Majruire and Dr. S. L. Lundbrook, who placed No. 3 team (Auckland) first. This team consisted of Privates Sanderson, Appleton, Guest and Johnston, and it scored SS points. Others teams were:—• No. 1: Sergeant Elliott, Privates Cumming, Dickson and Scott; 83 points. No. 2: Corporal Cronks, Privates Dean, Fchsenfeld and Duck; 72 points. No. 4: Corporal Anderson, Privates Patchett, Doyle and Hunter; 03 points. No. 5: Corporal Palmer, Privates Cathercll, Torwick and McAllister; So pointsNo. 0: Corporal Malone, Privates Howe, Crawford and Groom; S2 points. No. 7: Corporal Gilhiard, Privates Davis, Bridges and Pressor; 85 points. In presenting the Cup, the GovernorGeneral warmly congratulated the winners and spoke eulogistically of the selfsacrifice of the St. John men giving up so much time and devoting so much labour to first-aid for the benefit of the public. i His Excellency also presented the j Hessey Cup, won by tiie Auckland Division at Masterton oil New Year's Day; also a certificate to Reserve Officer G. L. Dunn for gallant work in connection with an explosion at the Mount Eden quarries. Several medals were also presented, _ i
