NEWMARKET FINANCE.
THE ANNUAL BALANCE-SHEET. STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS. The balance-slieet and statement of accounts for the Borough of Newmarket for the year ended March 31, 1925, was placed before the council at a meeting last evening. The Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, presided. Discussion was deferred until the next meeting. The total receipts for rates amounted to £10,509 9/2, which included £436 11/2 arrears from previous years. The amount \v*is paid out in sums specified in the account, £5034 7/ being transferred to the general account. The total receipts from all sources, shown under the general account, were £9854 10/7. Items of expenditure on this account include: Salaries, £375 2/; office expenditure, £177; miscellaneous items (specified), £973; Mayoral honoioriuin, £100; war memorial, £79 16/tf; drainage board, £095 15/10; health precautions, £20 5/11; street lighting, £430 18/2; wages, £1378; street maintenance, etc., £1300 7/1; Claremont Street contract, £ISS2; refund, street loan, No. 3. £233. Advances: Municipal Buildings, £200, to street loan No. 3, £530, and relief of unemployment, £182. Under the heading of Municipal Building Account, appear receipts for £1938 19/6. of which £1239 15/ was rent from shops, £018 4/15 from hall, and £S1 from social hall. Payments under the same heading show £1124 17/1 transferred to the interest account.
