Asserting that the freedom of the seas is at stake, the local branch of the Great War Veterans' Association launched a nationwide protest against the seizure by the United States of suspected rum-runners outside the twelve mile zone.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) RUM-RUNNING SEAPLANE. NEW YORK, March 31. The coastguard has reported the capture of the first liquor-running seaplane. In a brief message it is stated that the 'plane was seized by the cutter Mojave, while attempting to alight near a rum vessel. The officials claim that the vessel with which the seaplane sought to establish contact is also liable to seizure under the British-American treaty.
