MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH.

SATISFACTORY FINANCE. PAST YEAR IMPROVEMENTS. Remarking —that members •of the Mount Eden Borough Council would not meet again before the His Worship the Mayor (Mr. E. H. Potter) last evening took the opportunity to touch upon the position of the borough.! He said that the financial position was very satisfactory. The district fund had advanced £4500 to. various loan accounts, and in epite of this was but £200 overdrawn. The work done during the year had been much greater than in any previous period. Eightyeight different streets had received attention, and many of these had a permanent coating of bitumen. The concrete had .been laid on the entire length of Dominion Road, and over a very large portion of Mount Eden Road, and they could hope for a large saving in the annual cost of maintenance. Sections have been purchased in two instances in order to open up blind roads-, and corners have been rounded to improve transport. During the year the electric lighting of the streets had been installed, and was a great improvement. The preparation of a croquet ground In Nicholson,Park was completed, and *h<s road trough the reserve was nearing Completion. On Mount Eden a handsome rockery had bean built and Jnany native trees planted. The Belle Vue Road Reserve had. been filled in, and would shortly be completed, and the addition of the corner would make this a very attractive spot, and enable Lisnoe Avenue, a narrow street, to be widened opposite the park. During the year a triennial valuation nad been made, and showed some increase in valuation due to new buildings and to the value added by improvements. This would provide a somewhat larger revenue for next year, the many expenses entailed by the population would make it- necessary to exercise economy. He hoped that the coming year would see an activity equal to that of the past year.
