FOOD PRICES.
A Lig consumptive demand for eggs exists at the present time, and to-day retail prices were very irregular, varying, in Queen Street, from 2/S. up to 3/ per dozen, while at the same time wholesale prices rangd up to 2/0 per dozen.
Butter remains unaltered in price as the fall in the London market does not warrant any reduction at this end. the difference at present only being about one half-ponny per pound against the consumer in New Zealand. Superline factory butter is quoted Tetail at 1/8 per lb, first grade 1/7, and second grade 1/G, while farmers' make sells at from 1/4 to 1/5 per lb.
Cheese is unaltered in price this week at 1/2 to 1/4 per lb, with an extra twopence asked for choice matured. / Bacon and haras arc in pood supply, and selling veil. In cuts, bacon is | quoted from SM to 1/4 per lb, and in I rashers, 1/3 to 1/5 per lb. "Wliolo hams retail can be got at 1/1 to 1/2 per lb, and rashers at 1/6 to 1/8 per lb.
