The heavy cost of recurring epidemics of influenza to the National Health Insurance funds/was commented on in the presidential address to the National Conference of Industries Assurance Approved Societies, in London. In 1924, the president said, an influenza epidemic levied a toll upon the fund 3 which was even more severe than that of 1922, and at the present time the claims due to this complaint were again high. The frequent recurrence of these epidemics, and their effect upon the vitality of the people, Avith the serious drain which they made upon the funds, led them earnestly to hope that, with the advance of medical science, some means might be found to Temove this scourge.
