MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE; The executive committee of the Municipal Association of New Zealand met in the Council Chamber at Wellington on Tuesday to go into various matters affecting local body control in the Dominion. The chair was occupied by Mr. J. Taplin • (Mayor of Dunedin), and"there were present Messrs. J. A. Flesher (Mayor of Christchurch), H. Lock (Mayor of Nelson), F. J. Nathan (Mayor of Palmerston North), W. Pragnell (Mayor of Masterton), J. W. McEwen (Mayor of Petone), —. Davidson (Mayor of Newmarket), A. Moore .(chairman of Johnsonville Town Board), and A. J. McCurdy (chairman of the Upper Hutt Town Board).

Being an executive meeting the Press were excluded. One matter of importance brought before the meeting was the schedule to the Heavy Traffic Act, which was adopted with some modifications of a minor character. In connection with fees it was decided to ask for the insertion of a class of motor vehicle up to two tons in weight, which, on- occasions is converted from a goods to a passenger conveyance, the annual fee to be £8 per annum. ■ Provision is already made in the Municipal Corporations Act for the issue of a monthly license, so that any such vehicle taking out a one month's license would only pay one-twelfth of tho-annual fee.

In section 21 it was resolved, that in the case of one local body collecting fees on behalf of another it may charge up to-15 per cent, for such work, according to the arrangement made with the local bodies conceisned.
