DEVONPORPS NEW WHARF.

AN IMPROVED WATERFRONT,

The recent, request of the Devonport Borough Council for some definite statement from the Harbour Board with regard to the exact position of the contemplated new ferro-concrete wharf for Devonport, received answer last nwht in the shape of an elaborate plan, outlying' proposed improvemnts to Devonport's waterfront. The scheme as submitted by the board shows i a curving seawall, which sweeps from a point near the Rowing Club's shed nearly to the cable wharf. Existing seawalls would be replaced by reclamation work beyond their present line, and the new wharf would be placed slightly to westward of the present structure. The esplanade joining Queen's and King Edward Parade would then curve round to seaward of the Windsor Eeserve, in front of which provision is made for a swimming basin. > The Mayor, Mr. Lament, and the borough engineer, Mr. A. T. Griffiths, were authorised to confer with the Harbour Board on the details of the scheme and its probable cost, and thereafter to report to the council.
