PEARSON MEMORIAL FUND.

CAPITAL OF £49,273. -At a meeting of -the New Zealand Committee of the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund, the following telegram wa3 received from the Hon. Sir James Parr to the chairman, Mr. Clutha Mackenzie;— "Your telegram respecting subsidy Pearson Memorial- Fund to handPleasetl ta inform you that the Eight Hon. the Prime Minister has authorised the placing on the estimates of ten thousand pounds on account this year. Consideration of the question of further Government subsidy is being deferred till next financial year." It was reported that that contribution received" since March 31. 1924, had amounted to £1421 5/3, including the following second subscription: Earl Jellicoe. £50; Mr. A- B. Williams, £1251 Mr. H. B. Williams, £125; Bank of New Zealand, £250; Associated banks (except Bank of New Zealand), £250. This brought the total contributions, from the inception of the campaign, up to £39,976 6/2. The certified balance-sheet showed that the total amount handed to the trustees of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, as a result of the committee's work, -was £38,732 6/11, the expenses standing at the low figure of £672 13/3. Since that date a further amount of £1420 has been handed to the Institute, and subsidy to the amount of £10,000 has been received from the Government, making the total caoital of the fund £49,273" 2/. It is expected that the Government will pay the balance of the claim during the coming financial year. By sales of St. Dunstan'3 cigarettes in New Zealand, the Pearson Fund, the Commercial Travellers' Blinded Soldiers' Fund, and St. Dunstan's Hostel for I Blinded Soldiers. London, have benefited to the extent of £419 12/6.
