DANGEROUS SPEED.

BUS DRIVER FINED. AWAY ON HIS HONEYMOON. When Edward James Patterson comes back- to Auckland from his honeymoon he will have altogether £10 11/ to pay for failing to obey the city by-laws. Patterson was charged at the Police Court this morning with driving a motor bus in a manner dangerous to the public (two charges), and also with passing a stationary tram car. Mr. G. R. Hogan, Chief City Traffic Inspector, said that at the time when the offences were committed defendant was employed as a driver by the Royal Motor Bus Company, running between Auckland and Onehunga. Recently complaints had been frequent at the manner in which buses had been driven. Evidence was given that on one occasion Patterson's bus covered a measured 440 yards through Epsom at a speed of 34 miles per hour. At the time there were six people in the bus. Mr, R. N. Matthews, who appeared for defendant, in pleading guilty said that Patterson was at present on his honeymoon. . Messrs. Arthur Rosscr and J. R. Self, J.P.s, referred to the speed as a dangerous one, particularly for a motor bus. On each of the two charges of dangerous driving defendant was fined £2 and costs, and for passing the stationary tram he was ordered to pay the costs, £4 15/. The fines and costs amounted to £10 11/.
