: NORTHCOTE. The ordinary meeting of the Northcote Borough Council was held Ijst night. The ■ Deputy-Mayor, Cγ. J. B. T&iar, presided ; F and Crs. F. O. Devlin, Alfred Parrish, A . VV. Smitli, W. C. Smith, Wm. Kinloy and Chas. Bjunter were also present. : Drainage Loan. — Debentures were cxc- . cuted for the £5000 instalment granted by i the State Advances Office of the x, 20 nob ; drainage loan. .' New Buildings.- was reported that since December penuts had been issued ■ for new buildings of a total value of ' £ SOl3, including shops £ 500, dwellings . £ 7350, and alterations £ 733. I Water.—The analysis on behalf of the ■! Board of Control of the water supply was ' reported to be satisfactory. ■ i Basement Workshop.—The application _' of the owner of a basement flat (recently ,' prohibited for use as a dwelling) to utilise 1 this as a workshop, was granted, subject • to the approval of the health officer. ■ J Main Road.—The bad state of disrepair of the main road was pointed out In a . I communication from the Waitemata Bus Company, the suggestion being made that, 1 pending permanent construction, the road , should be scarified, rolled, and the surface ■ blinded. Sir. Tonar said only that day ' the Mayor had spoken of the disgraceful condition' into which the main road had i fallen. Drainage Trenches.—Mr. F. E. Powell • considered it inadvisable at present to have ' the footpaths tarred over the drainage ' trenches. He recommended that the work ', be delayed until the contracts were nearly ; completed, in order to get the maximum : settlement of the earth. In the meantime the contractors would make good any suo- • sidences with ash or scoria, to keep them lup to level. This would form a good basis l for the tarring later.
