By appearance the Government intended to Se them a bonus, for each found himself richer by, I have heard, 10/o, than thdifiual monthly dole, of £3 5/ at Cbristmas. In January the usual £3 5/ •iras paid. This month only £2 14/7 vas paid, the explanation given being that in January 10/5 too much was paid. Just imagine the consternation of the pensioners who had already provided themselves with Christmas ynMing with the money deducted, lit : - Government's conduct reminds, a ---rhyme o£ ■-■ childliood's"Give a thing and take a thing, the bad man's gold ring." ProbaMy the explanation will be that the auditorias attached a tag.' But surely thin should not have occurred with so many Gorennnent lawyers to consult. Uo old age pensioner looks to facts;, reasons are nothing to him, and this blunder may cost the Government many votes.—l am, etc., EXPERIENTIA DOCET.
