NORTHCOTE POST OFFICE.
XEW BUILDING DEFERRED.
A letter read at the meeting of the Northeote Borough Council last evening from Mr. A. Harris, M.P., intimated that he had written to the PostmasterGeneral supporting the council's request for the erection of a new post office building, and strongly urging its importance. Mr. Harris stated that during his present visit to Wellington he would make a point of personally pressing for an early commencement of the work. As doubtless the council was aware, a vote of £500, on account, for this building appeared on the Public Works Estimates.
The Postmaster-General, the Hon.* J. G. Coates, wrote under date February 27th:—"In reply to your letter urging that a post office building be erected at Xorthcote, I desire to state that, owing to the demands of other places through, out the Dominion at which requirements in the matter of accommodation are more urgent than at Xorthcote, it has been found necessary to defer for the present the question of erecting a post office building in the borough of Northeote. It is hoped, however, that it will be possible to give further consideration to the matter during the forthcoming financial year."
