BANKRUPT'S DISCHARGE OPPOSED.

Noel Furness Atkinson, farmer, had 34 acres of his small King Country holding planted in maize. He expected the .crop to return about £600. Maori pigs broke through and ruined the crop. It realised only £100. This went to the mortgagees. He "was ruined, and could not pay his workmen's wages. In August, 1923, he filed a petition in bankruptcy. Afterwards he made a living far his wife and children as a travelling book agent, earning from £4 to £4 10/ per week. Yesterday, when represented by, Mr. George, he applied to the Supreme Court for a discharge from bankruptcy. Mr. Clark, who represented two opposing creditors, stated that the amounts owing to them were £41 and £74 respectively. Mr. Justice Reed said bankrupt could not possibly get a discharge unless these preferential claims were paid. Counsel applying had better consult with his client.
