THE POISON CUP.

DRY LAW IN PENNSYLVANIA. NEW YORK, February 11. The Governor of Pennsylvania, Mr. G. Pinx-hot. in his message to the State Assembly at Haxrisburg, stated that Philadelphia is the principal centre in the United States for the manufacture of illegal drink from denatured alcohol, and that Pittsburgh is the centre for the concoction of illegal beer. He asked for legislation to regulate the distilleries and breweries. If tlie bill passed, said the Governor, the sources of drink in Pennsylvania would be dried up. It was a question of stopping the flood of poison drink which was poured out over the State and the flood of crime, misfortune, disease and death. The Governor said the amount of specially denatured alcohol produced ill Philadelphia had increased from 800,000 gallons to more than 5,000,000 gallons in two years. — (Reuter.) MR. ASQUITH'S TITLE.
