DELHI. .January 13. j A tlesperate outrage occurred in a fashionable quarter of Bombay last night. A gang nf armed men attacked a motor car with revolvers and knives, apparently with the object of abducting h Mohammedan woman, who was accompanied by a Mohammedan citizen "i Bombay, Abdul Kader'oa Bnjla. anrl an Indian Christian named Matnews. The desperadoes, who mortally injured Fijaln. shot nnd slashed the girl and Mathews without killing them. They were on the point of achieving their object, when another ear with four British officers drove up. The officers j rushed to the rescue and liberated the; girl. ! One ufticer. Lieutenant -Saogcrt. who; was shot four times, but not .seriously,: seized one assailant, but the others; escaped, tiring all round lo prevent pursuit. The outrage aroused a tremendous sensation. It appears that the mother of 1 ihe injured girl brought v case in lUlftj against certain people in the employ of the Maharajah of Indore. alleging that ber daughter had been kidnapped. Toe '•.ise fell through, as the mother was unable to prove that the girl was under 16 year? of age. Subsequently the mother filed anot'ner complaint, alleging that ber daughter was being taken to England atrainst her will. The police questioned the girl, who stated that she was going with the Maharajah of Tndore of her own free will, Pbe did not wish to return. The mot tier states that her! daughter went to England and returned, j but, about five months ago left the j Maharajah's service and came to Bombay, where she met Bajla. j The rescuing officers placed the girl I In their own ear with a view to takin_ j Tier to the hospital.
