GREAT STORM IN N.S.W.
DAMAGE IN BALRANALD. SYDNEY, January 13. A violent storm caused extensive havoc in the tov-n of Balranald, New S< ith Wales, on .he north 'bank of the Murrumbidgee River. It is reported that 80 per cent of the buildings were damaged. Many were unroofed, including the hospital, fire station and convent. The belfry of the Catholic Church was blown down and telegraphic and water services were disorganised. A child named Monita Smith was killed by a piece of flying roofing. A prominent grazier, Mr. Edward
Borman, was crushed to death by a falling tree. _ iMr. Lister, engineer at the -waterworks, wa3 injured when the engine house collapsed. The staff and patients in the hospital had some narrow escapes from tumbling debris.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
