GAIETY IN PARIS.
FESTIVITIES AT CHRISTMAS. THE VOLATILE GAUL. PARIS, December 20. It is agreed that this Christmas was the gayest in the French capital since the war. Perfect weather heightened the ■festivities, and all places of amusement and restaurants were crowded. Champagne flowed as never before, although 300 francs (about £3 10/) a bottle was the usual price. The boulevards were crowded with Americans, Englishmen, Scandinavians and other foreigners. It had been feared that Communists would organise a protest against the display of luxury, but nothing transpired. The richer places were elaborately protected by the police.— (A. and N.Z.)
