TAURANGA REGATTA.

THE OCEAN RACE. A LIGHT BREEZE FRESHENS. (From Our Special Correspondent.) TAURANGA, this day. It rained until 8 a.m. to-day, but tl.cn the wind changed, and for the r-st of the day bright sunshine prevailed for the Tauranga regatta. The bad roads prevented large numbers of visitors coming in from Rotorua and the Waihi district, but the train from the East Coast was fully loaded. The Matangi was flagship at the wharf. There was a good show of yachts and launches, including competitors in the ocean race. All arrangements were very complete. In the ocean race, after the start on Christmas Eve, the wind died away, and at about 10 p.m. the boats were becalmed off the top of Waiheke. At midnight a light air from the southeast set up the Gulf, and the boats slowly made out to the Cape. The Moaua was the first boat rounding the Cape" about 9 a.m., lorangi, Prize, Wairiki, Rawene, Queenie, Waitangi and Rangi following in tins order. Ida went to the Barrier and returned. About 11 a.m. the wind went east, then north-east, being still light. It freshened in the afternoon, and held northeast till the finish. Off Mercury Bay the Moana was still leading, lorangi, Prize, Waitangi, Queenie, Rawene, Wairiki, Eangi being the order. Then lorangi passed the Moana a few miles from the finish, which was timed:—lorangi 9h 41m 30s, Moana 9h 47m, Waitangi 10h 13m 48s. Prize 10h 4Cm, Queenie 10h 3(im 15s. Eawene 12h Sm 225, Rangi lh sm, and Wairiki 7 a.m. Queenie wins by 4s corrected time, Moana second, Waitangi third, and lorangi fourth. Queenie wins the gold cup, miniature, and £20, also the flag presented by Capt. G. Faulkner. Moana wins £15, also a special prize of £5 tor the first boat past the town wharf. \\aitangi wins £10, and lorangi £:,. also tie champion flag for the yacht making the fastest time, presented by Mr. E. i-e Roy.
