BOWLING.

. I CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT. | OPENS IN WET -WEATHER. I FIRST ROUND OMITTED. GREENS VERY HEAVY. In common with everybody else the bowlers of the city were very disappointed at the wet weather to-day, particularly as the Christmas tourna- I ment, an annual event to which almost every tniDdler in Auckland looks forward, was to begin at 0 a.m. Despite the downpour, however, the competitors, representing twenty-two of the local clubs, went to the six greens selected for section play, and awaited ! developments. It was decided at tirst to begin the games a.t 10 a.m., and the greens were "rolled with this in view. | The rain, however, continued so persis- ] tently that even the bowlers were j beaten, and one or two further ad- | joumments were made. Finally it was j decided to omit the first round meantime and to begin the second round of play at 12.30. Having done his worst, the weather clerk repented somewhat, and when the players opened the tourney it was actually fair. The greens, of course, were very heavy, but ■the players soon found the strength of I the rinks, and some interesting games were witnessed.
