Archbishop J .I'ulius had'not been residing there for some years. Ciitil recently it was, utilised' as a hostel. With Archbishop | Julius' coming retirement a new hostel was secured and Hishopscoiirt was occu,,,l m | 1V the ilev. llithert .lones, pending the appointment and arrival of the new bishop. When Mr. dunes retired at li:«) on Wednesday evening everything was secure, but an hour later the smell ~f smoke awoke him, aud investigation revealed that a lire had broken out in Ithe roof of (he chapel. Tin' brigade was summoned, but before it arrived the names had obtained a good hold of the building, which was an old one of two storeys with a shingle roof. _ It 'was well over an hour before the fire was got under control. It spread to the newer portion of the building, built of brick with a slate roof. -Ibis was considerably damaged.
