LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT ALBERT. Mount Albert Borough Council met on Tuesday, the Mayor (Mr. L. E. Khodes) presiding over a full attendance. It was decided to call the attention of the owner of the tiuiner mill in .McDonald Si reel to tho fact that a colliplalut hah been received regarding sparks from tue mill falling on a house. The town clerk said there had also heeu a complaint about the smoke from the mill. 'He understood a spark-catcher was gplng to be installed. Mr. Alliiigham pointed out that the Council would soon have none of the loan move.v which the ratepayers authorised Jour years ago for drainage work, because it was being used for other purposes. It was a mistake to use the loan for isolated drainage, even though the Council received half the cost of the work from the ratepayer concerned. There could not he much of the ±'SO,OOO left. •Mr. Myles agreed, but saiii that the only way to stop it was to put an cud to subdivision drainage. What was wanted was drainage in the thickly populated areas. Iv giving drainage nn subdivisions the Council was simply putting up the value or sections. The Mayor pointed out that the cost or liranch work was more expensive than a l"b for a whole area, and the oO per cent contribution was probably only worth -i Mr. Matthews said matters were rushing forward, and a scheme should be drawn and another loan obtained so that tie Council could deal witU drainage In a comprehensive manner. It was agreed that certain applications for drainage un subdivisions be declined coving to the lack of finance. Regarding sewers, the foreman of works. •Mr. A. Li. -Grant reported that Truro Road sewer had been linked up and the job is now completed. Powell, consulting engineer to the Council, estimated that there was still £3000 worth of work to do on the road.
