LIGHT HARNESS SPORT. TO-MORROW'S RACING. REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. ' (By "ROTHSCHILD.") The Auckland Trottinp Club's Summer Meeting opens to-morrow, and some of the bes; horses In the Dominion are booked to take part in the chief event. Tbere; has been some very Interesting \vorl£ on tlie Epsom track the past two days, and numbers or spectators have been there to wTtness it. The meetinst opens with the! maiden trotters' event, and two or the j visiting: horses will make their llrsl appearance before the Auckland public. In these are the Southern-owned and much discussed .Napland, and the l'almcrstonowned Bryan Blng-en. The latter has been at Hamilton since that club's fixture early tbts month, so very little has been seen or him by the onlookers at Epsom. Napland looks well. Me. has arrived Willi a big- reputation, and. from all accounts, will be the public's choice K>r the Introductory Handicap, ivtor Macdonald trotted a fair race al the Otahuhu meeting last month, but ho is very unreliable. lie put in several bad breaks last meeting, which cost him the race, lie will need a little more racing tierore lie ran he rolled on to solid races this season, and may be in the money lirst day. The December Handicap for pacers lias j drawn ttie usual large Held, ntnl will be j a scramble from itie start with IT on the; limit. Doctor Dillon has raced fairly con- (. ststently this season, and is a so"d beginner, Kuhy Huon. another of the limit ' division, is an Australian importation. She, i Is credited with very Kood Hack work, | and is one or \V. Tompkinson's team from j the South, l.a Sonette dead-lieateU at the i last meeting for llrst place, arter losing- a I lot of ground at the start, she will only | need to leave correctly to be a nuisance : to the other competitors. i The Auckland TrottiUK cup or sonosovs and a gout cup valued at too miineas will be the third event, and this promises to be a Rreat contest. The. nilliiK favourite for this event in the south is the well performed Acron, witli tlie. i'ree-Tor-All to his credit in i.33. and several prood twomile perrorrnaiices also. Good judges say he will only need to leave the mark correctly and tbe race is his, but that 'Mr" about it still leaves chances for the other competitors that are Mire to leave on time. The limit division or eight horses will probably make the pace hot from the start. The consistent l'ltaroa will more than likely tlnd the company too select. Locanda Mac tias been doing good work on the track, and providing the weather keeps tine, will stand as good a chancu as anything on the end. Blue Mountain King has yet to pick up before he will be at his best. He left the track very lame arter his last workout. First Carbine lias been racing very consistently this season, and promises to give a good account of himself. The Sotitliern-owned and trained Logan Chief will probably be well supported tn this event, and he also will need a good track to show to advantage. Lady Joan has two good recent performances to her credit, but she appears too close to Acron to have much or a chance In tills event, though both horses will be a bracket at the meeting. Man-o'-War has not got any the best or the. handicaps. Ho has bad some hard racing recently, and will need a heavy course to stand any chance or success. He will be on his own on this mark, as Realm and (ireat Hope did not make tlie trip up rrom the South. Good judges say Ahurirl will be hard to dispose or. but there is a chance or his dwelling on the mark, and no time will need to be lost there with such a strong opposition. Jewel easily accounted for a big event earlier In the season, but the opposition was much weaker than at this meeting, though she Is much rancied by ihc public already. The bracketed pair. Acron and Lady Joan, will no doubt be the public fancy at the finish. The Parnell Handicap. Tor unhoppled horses, has drawn a field <>r eighteen, among the number being Don Douglas and Maggie Pronto, both Australian Horses with big reputations. The latter raced well at the October meeting, just falling to secure ttrst place. The trotter Watkaha will be making his first appearance In a two-mile event, though there Is no reason to think he will not see. the journey out. Marble Ptar has been responsible for some attractive work or late, and will be making Ills first appearance in New Zealand in this event. Daphne W'itdwood is one that is capable or improving on any or her recent showings, and Is sure to give a good account or herseir 1n these, events, while Nipper lias been staying on better In His work, though he may still find the Journey a little too far. Marble Star and the bracketed pair Don Douglas and Maggie Pronto will probably find llrst favour with the public. The Great .Northern Derby promises 1o be a very interesting match between the Southern horses Kohara and Clenelg. The. latter has two starts and two wins to his credit, the llrst start being over one mile and a-quarter. which event he won with ease in i.sr,. His next race was one mile, when he outclassed the opposition in 2.18. Kohara annexed tlie Sapling Slakes in Ash- ' burton, over one mile and a-hair. and at - the November meeting In Christchurch be , won a two-mile event easily in 4.38, ' afterwards running fourth in the Hamilton 5 Cup. A glance at the petrormanc.es shows i Kohara's the best to date, as he has , proved himself over tile Derby distance. j which Is one mile and,a-liair. At the same 1 lime there Is no reason lo think that r Glenelg will not stay the journey. , The Grandstand Handicap has drawn a neld or userul two-mile horses, and pro- - mlses to be an interesting contest. Glanr dorc has been working in improved style, > while Bell Tower is a horse capable or ' seeing out a good two miles. Judging by ' Rua Pore's display in the mile and aquarter event at Hamilton, he should oe > hard to dispose of from 2f yards behind, j Goldman is on the back mark, and, even rrom there, lie, cannot be counted out. as 1 he Is a proved slayer. The contest seems 5 very open, but the public will probably favour Bell Tower and Goldman. The Rowe Cup Handicap has a field or " eleven high-class trotters engaged. The 1 American youngster Petcrwan has been responsible for some high class work on ' the Epsom I rack, and is already a proved 2 racehorse, so Is almost certain to carry the most money. Judging by her recent show- , Ings. Rose Bingen will be the. second fancy, while the visiting horses Peler Swift and " Keen John arc sure to be well supported. i Aerlel Bingen has been trotting in tine style on the track, but on the day will morn than likely nnd the task of conceding- nose ' Bingen and Peterwah a start too great lor - him. Peter Dean has been doirrg his work I well, but Is another unlikely to catch the rront division. D The programme concludes with the St. . Heller's Handicap, r?s; which event some a speedy pacers are engaged. On her track essays Sparkling Pronto looks like being 3 Ilrst* choice, and, judging by Cute Lad's effort in the Waikato Cup. where he 1 finished second, he also should tlnd many supporters. I" all probability J. Bryce 1 will be behind Sparkling Pronto in this • event. i, Horses for the first races have to be In „ the birdcage at 11 a.m. There will be a frequent tram service to the course.
