NORTH AUCKLAND RAILWAY.

TOUR BY EXPERTS. ENTERTAINED AT DAHGAVILLE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, this day. The Railways Commissioners, Sir Sam. Fay and Sir Vincent Raven, accompanied by Mr. McVilly and Mr. Furkert, arrived in Dargaville from Whangarei last night, and were entertained at dinner by the local bodies and the Chamber of Commerce. They received a deputation in connection with railway matters, chiefly freight on butter. They left by special train this morning to inspect Donnelly's Crossing railway. On their return they motored to Huarau and joined a special train to Auckland. The overseas visitors were much impressed with the possibilities of North Auckland. Sir Vincent Raven expressed his intention of spending some time, on the completion of his present business tour, in looking over the beauty spots of the district. NEEDS OF THE NORTH. WHANGAREI RECOMMENDATION'S. i (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. The Railways Commission arrived in Whangarei yesterday afternoon. The Whangarei Chamber of Commerce recommends the Department to consider the advisability of altering the existing railway service between Whangarei and Opua to a daily .service, also a train from Opua and Kaihau to Whangarei and back the same day in place of a triweekly service as at present; that it would ultimately enhance the revenue of the Department considerably if existing freights on manure were reduced especially to the northern districts, where fertilisers are required for development; that the attention of the Department be drawn to the loss of revenue that would otherwise be obtained if a railway were constructed from Okaihau to Hokianga; that in view of the fact that a considerable number of scenic attractions in the north are very little known outside the district, it is suggested that the Railways Department assist the Tourist Department by providing attractive travelling facilities for tourists, having at the principal stations information available for tourists.
