DISMISSALS OF TEACHERS.

DEPARTMENT'S ARBITRARY ; POWERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Some' members of ' the Wellington Education Board to-day made objection to certain provisions of the Education Act Amendment Bill, with particular reference; to a provision relating to the dismissal of teachers. It seemed to one niciwbor that the Department was given very arbitrary powers in this connection, and the Board did not have any say in the matter. There was danger of dismissals "becoming , a political question. It simply meant that they were getting away from democratic rule to autocratic rule. Another member looked upon the provision as being yet another i-.lcp towards I abolition of Boards. A motion "Thai the Board point out that Boards should have some say in the matter of dismissal" was lost.
