SHODDY FOOTWEAR.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The recent remarks of Mr. Dickson, member for- Parnell, and other members in the House, on shoddy footwear are misleading and inaccurate from the New Zealand manufacturers' point of view.- To-day the New Zealand manufacturers are producing footwear equal to, if not better than, ninetenths of the imported article, and certainly the equal that any Australian manufacturer can produce. As one having had considerable experience in the manufacture of shoes in U.S.A., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, I say that the local article is rapidly coming into its own. For wearing qualities, I would invite Mr. Dickson or any other member to question any country storekeeper on the subject, because the country is the place to prove the worth of the boot. It is a well-known fact among shoe buyers that the New Zealand product is beginning to force itself to the front, more especially in the ladies' footwear.— I am, etc., ' TRAVELLER.
