Without the correct date , its exact identity cannot be traced. ! Mr. R. Christey, of 0, Surrey Street, Grey Lynn, brought in a very handsome silver coin of Siam—a tical—showing the sacred elephant on tlie obverse and on the reverse the towers of Siamese temples. Mr. Christey's collection also includes a half-crown of George 111., shillings of Georges 111. and IV., a farthing of George IV., a very early Victorian penny (much worn) and two interesting old trade tokens—the latter being one issued by Morrin and Co., Queen Street, Auckland (undated), and the other by J- Hurley and Co., "confectioners, bakers and grocers," Wanganui. in 1853. Mr. Selwyn M. Hovell forwards for inspection from Waihi a "cartwheel" 2d piece, of George 111., well preserved, dated 1797, a nickel medal of the same monarch (after the fashion of the "spade" guinea); als» a small silver coin of the reign of Charles 11., dated 1677, this last being perfectly preserved. Compared with the present 3d piece, the current value of this coin would be 2d. ! Mr. G. Other coins in I the collection include a Darsk skilling, j a brass coin of Louis XV. of France, j what appears to be an India Company 1 coin of 1579, and a Greek coin of 1730.
