MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.

■ The ordinary meeting of the Manukau County Council was held to-day. Present, Mr. F. W. Waters (chairman), Councillors F. Kearsley. O. H. Morrison. J. W. Davies. S. W. House, T. Speechley, F. Grainger, and the newly appointed engineer, Mr. J. R. Page. Takanlni School. —Arrangements being in hand for the improvement of the Takanlni School grounds, an application was forwarded to the Council to have the portion of the road fronting the building graded and metalled. Koad to Buckland'B Beach.—A petition wns presented by 23 ratepayers residing within the proposed special rating area for the raising of a loan for the formation of a road from Pakuranga Post Office to Buckland's Beach store, protesting against the scheme- The petition states : "We consider that the farming community is already carrying a heavy burden and that from our point of view the proposal is unjust as it was for the benefit of people with properties to be subdivided in the near future." The petition asked. "Why should we be taxed to make a road for such a purpose?" Stock Road. —The clerk of the Mannrewa Road Board forwarded the following resolution passed at a meeting of ratepayers : "That this meeting strongly recommends the incoming board to endeavour to arrange a conference with the Papakura and Papatoetoc Town Boards and the Manukau County Council with the object of opening up a Btoek route from Papakura to Otahuhu ridge, eastwards of the main road, and to obtain legislation to enable each local body concerned to contribute its fair share of the cost, and also to invite, the assistance of the Auckland Automobile Association. Finance.—-Accounts totalling £3722 17/o were passed for payment.
