•— DEVONTOKT QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Devonport Methodist Circuit was held at Stanley Bay. ! Itev. .1. E. Parsons presided over a good attendance of officers and representatives. I An increase in membership was reported. ! The circuit steward, Mr. It. .1. Clark, pre- I scnted the balance-sheet, which showed a sum of 19/10 in hand. Tlie spiritual ad- I vancc campaign was introduced by Mr. | Parsons, and after an interesting discus- I sion the meeting resolved to support the , movement with enthusiasm. Messrs I Dawson and Culvers were appointed to - I serve on the united committee- to maKe ! | arrangements for the effort in the Auck- i land district. On the motion of Mr. It. ~. | Clark. Itev. J. E. Parsons was unanimously invited to remain In the circuit a fourth year. Members of the meeting spoke ot the good work accomplished In the circuit j during Mr. Parsons' ministry. The growth I of the congregations had been most marked ' and the niouey raised whereby the new ' Sunday school additions were being made, | | had been largely the outcome of their , minister's optimism and enthusiasm. Mr. I Parsons accepted the invitation. The ' , reports from the Sunday school were most satisfactory. All three schools were more ; than maintaining their strength in the ■ borough. The Young Worshippers' Leagues were bringing young people to church oa I Sunday mornings, and Mrs. Parsons (al Devonport) and Mrs. Ilainer tat Stanley ' I Bay) were to be congratulated ou this I phase of the church's activities. Chiij dren's happy hour gatherings were held at Vauxbail, Stanley Bay and Devonport, ' and were well attended, temperance aim 1 religious instruction being blended with an entertaining programme. Representatives to Synod were appointed, Messrs. hi. O. Chivers and A. W. Parker being elected, with Messrs. E. J. Gillon and It. .1. Clark as substitutes. Mr. 11. Hauler was conI tinned on the plan as a local preacher on I trial.
