CARE OF ORPHANS.

■ METHODIST HOME REPORT. SUBSTANTIAL BEQUESTS MADE. It was eleven years since the Mount Albert Methodist Orphanage was established, stated the report of that institution presented to the annual meeting of the management committee yesterday. , At that time, one property, the Wesley ' Home, was purchased with accommodation for 30 children. At present a second home, known as the Epworth Home, was also being supported, the total number of children now at Mount Albert; cinq 01. Nine children had left during. the year, and 10 had been admitted. ' These were not all orphans. Children of parents living apart were received into the home, thus obviating the i dangers to which such children were exposed. The care of these children was ■ often more necessitous than that of the orphaned. Most satisfactory school and Sunday school reports had been received. The sum of £35 had been raised for home and foreign missions, the children working for a sale of work. The matron. Mrs. Annitage, came in for high credit for her excellent oversight, the health of the children being excellent. The committee accepted the resignations of Mr. and Mrs. Annitage from their positions of overseer and matron with extreme regret. During their four and a-half years' resi- | deuce they had endeared themselves to the children, and the work of the matron, always wise and sympathetic, - had commanded the respect and grati- i tude of the committee. i All the clothing for the children had ; been provided by the ladies of the Auckland Methodist churches. The sum of £27 was raised by an "At Home." All the children enjoyed a pleasant j holiday change, by reason of the ; generosity of friends in the country, who took them into their homes during the summer holidays. The treasurer, Mr. A. L. Caughey, stated that during the year bequests to the orphanage had been made by Miss E. Martin, £1000; j Miss L. Rathboiio, £200; and Mr. A. 1 Lawrie, £30. The mortgage on the Epworth Home now stood at £1300, ! having been reduced by £200. The receipts for the year had been £3229, ' and the disbursements £2250, leaving a balance of £1233. The treasurer. Mr. Caughey. and the secretary, Rev. A. Liversedge were re-elected.
