HENDERSON TOWN BOARD.

At a meeting of the Henderson Town j Board, the chairman, Mr. B. Hart, presiding, a letter was received from the vestry of the Anglican church with a ! request that the Board take steps to nave the local saleyards removed. It was resolved that the attention ot the Loan and Mercantile, Company be culled to the nuisance that results from the saleyards being used as accommodation paddocks. I -he chairman reported on the conference ' between the Board and the chairman, engineer and secretary of the proposed Waltcmata Electric Power Board, and it was decided Hint Henderson link up with the proposed i Board and that the petition for inclusion be circulated immediately. i The matter of sanitation was deferred, I the land offered to the Board by Mr. i Macfadycn as a dump having been adversely reported upon by the works committee. The appointment of Mr. W. Bish as poundkeeper was confirmed. j The Introduction of a notice of motion I by Commissioner Murray to rescind a previous minute whereby Mr. \V. Leigh ton was I appointed Ip represent the Board on the Public Bodies Association resulted in a I heated discussion. Mr. Murray stated that Mr. Leighton's appointment had been made I in the absence of Mr. Piatt and himself. I and whilst casting no slight upon Mr. | Ijcighton, he was of opinion that it. was ; the chairman's duty to represent the Board on sucli a body, nnd the appointment made was a decided broach of eliniiettp. Mr. i Shepherd said with much indignation the ! introduction of such n notice of motion was not only -an insult to Mr. Leigh ton i but to all the members who voted for the ! appointment, and it had, in fact, been a unanimous vole. It would appear that Without Mr. Murray being present to guide ! and direct them, (he remaining members ] were incapable of transacting tlie business of the Board. The appointment of Mr. ' I-eighton was made because iliev were of the opinion that he was the most capable nnd suitable memJier to represent them —- a road contractor of 40 years' experience, and one whose experience would be an invaluable service to the association. The motion was carried by 4 votes to 3 Mr Murray then nominated Mr. Hart and-this was seconded by Mr. Worcross. As a protest Mr. Shepherd nominated Mr. Worcross Mr. Worcross rafusing nomination. Mr Morel's name was put forward, to be defeated by 4 votes to 8. Again other nominations were put forward each time to be defeated, until that of Mr. Hart! i the seventh and last member of the Board, was submitted, and this time 4 votes were recorded for nnd 3 ngainst. tlie voting being. Messrs Hart. Worcross 1 Murray and Piatt for, and Leighton, Morel and Shepherd against. 1 It was reported that the loan money J for the workers' dwellings was still under : consideration at Wellington, nnd it was ' decided that a letter be written to the , Hon. C. J. Parr requesting him to ask from I the floor of the House why the money had not been made available.
